From Reference to Sample: A Kidswear Sampling Guide
A sample turns a product idea into something you can measure, handle and review. A clear brief helps everyone understand what the first sample should demonstrate and which details still need a decision.
1. Explain the reference
Send your own design, a technical pack or reference images you have permission to share. Identify the garment type, target size range and intended season. Mark which details matter: silhouette, sleeve shape, neckline, closures, print placement or waistband construction.
A reference image cannot establish fabric composition, weight or an exact fit. If you do not have a full specification, describe your preferred feel and use, then mark the undecided details for discussion. Start with sleepwear and loungewear or another relevant category.
2. Agree the sample scope and charge
Yunya Studio offers paid sampling. Before proceeding, ask what the charge includes: the sample style and size, fabric or trim sourcing, artwork preparation, revision scope and sample shipping arrangements. Sample preparation time is confirmed for the specific brief; it is separate from our indicative standard-order lead time.
A sample charge may be credited toward a later bulk order by agreement. Confirm the amount and conditions in writing. A credit is not an automatic refund or a promise that every sample charge will be returned.
3. Review the sample against a checklist
- Fit: compare the agreed measurement points and target dimensions.
- Material: check the approved fabric reference, hand feel and stretch.
- Construction: inspect seams, openings, cuffs, closures and finishing.
- Artwork: check scale, position, colors and the chosen decoration method.
- Branding: review label content, placement and packaging requirements.
Where wash performance or other testing matters, agree the method and acceptance criteria for the exact material and garment. Visual approval alone does not establish performance or destination-market compliance.
4. Keep revisions in one record
Number the sample versions and return one consolidated change list. Pair each requested change with a measurement or annotated photograph. For example, “increase finished body length by 1 cm from the agreed point” is more actionable than “make it a little longer.” Record what is approved as well as what needs changing.
5. Confirm the bulk-order basis
Before production, agree the sample version, material references, size breakdown, artwork, labels and packaging. Custom production starts at 100 pieces / sets per style and color, with mixed sizes available. Confirm the quotation and schedule against the final scope, especially if revisions affect materials or construction.
Read the measurement guide and OEM / ODM overview to prepare the details for your first sample discussion.
Kidswear MOQ Explained: Styles, Colors & Size Assortments
MOQ means minimum order quantity. The number only becomes useful when you know what it applies to: the whole order, a style, a color or a size.
Count pieces and sets consistently
A T-shirt or romper is counted as one piece. A top and trousers sold together are counted as one set. When you send a mixed order, label the unit for each line so a 100-set request is not mistaken for 100 individual garments.
Stock wholesale: two minimums to check
At Yunya Studio, stock wholesale starts at 100 pieces / sets for the total order. Within that order, the minimum is 5 pieces / sets per style and color. Styles and colors can be mixed, subject to confirmed availability and size assortments.
Illustrative stock order — availability must still be confirmed
| Order line |

| Baby set A, one color |

| Baby set B, one color |
30 |

| Infant romper C, one print |
30 |

| Total |
100 |
Mixed pieces / sets |
This example meets the quantity thresholds. It does not reserve stock or promise those particular styles. A 5-set line may meet the style-and-color minimum, but an order containing only that line does not meet the 100-unit total.
Custom production: count each style and color
Custom production starts at 100 pieces / sets per style per color, with mixed sizes available. One style in two colors means at least 200 pieces / sets. Two different styles in one color each also mean at least 200 pieces / sets. Combining 50 sets of each of two custom styles does not meet this minimum.
For illustration, 25 sets in each of four agreed sizes would make 100 sets in a single style and color. The actual size range, grading and breakdown must be confirmed for your product.
A style-and-color minimum is not a size guarantee
Available stock may come in a preset size assortment. Do not assume you can select any five sizes or take five identical sizes. Ask for the current assortment for the exact style. Our overall range covers newborn to 16 years; each individual style has its own available measurements and sizes.
Prepare one line for each style and color
- Product reference or style code.
- Color or print name.
- Total pieces or sets.
- Requested sizes and quantity per size, or a request for the available assortment.
- Stock wholesale or custom production.
Use the quote request checklist to prepare your order. If the quantity needs adjusting, ask us to review the breakdown before starting sample development.
Kidswear Size Charts: What Buyers Should Confirm
An age label helps organize a range. A measurement chart tells you what you are actually buying. Confirm both for the exact style before deciding whether it suits your customers.
Age labels do not replace measurements
Yunya Studio’s overall range covers newborn to 16 years. That does not mean every product is available in every age. Stock styles have specific size assortments, and different garment shapes may use different labels. Do not assume a supplier’s age or height label is directly equivalent to a US or European size.
Ask whether a chart describes body measurements or finished garment measurements. They serve different purposes: a finished garment includes the ease built into its design. Compare the chart with your own fit reference and the intended use.
Define each measurement point
Examples of points to agree — no standard dimensions are implied
| Point |
Question to resolve |
| Chest width |
Is it measured flat across the garment, and at which point? |
| Body length |
Does it start at the high shoulder point or the back neckline? |
| Sleeve length |
Does it start at the shoulder seam or the neckline? |
| Waist |
Is the elastic relaxed, stretched, or measured both ways? |
| Trouser length |
Is this the outseam or inseam, and is the waistband included? |
Use a diagram or annotated sample photo where a term could be misunderstood. Specify centimetres or inches and keep the same unit throughout. Do not double a flat width or convert a measurement unless the source method is clear.
For stock orders, request the available assortment
Confirm the actual sizes supplied within each style-and-color selection. A minimum of five pieces / sets per style and color does not mean that any five sizes can be chosen freely. Ask for the current assortment and compare it with your intended sales range before approving the order.
For custom orders, approve the size breakdown
Provide your measurement chart or ask to develop one from a reference sample. Confirm the base sample size, the measurements for each other size and the quantity per size. Mixed sizes are available within the custom minimum of 100 pieces / sets per style and color.
Agree measurement tolerances and the condition in which the garment is measured. Wash-related changes need their own agreed assessment. No universal tolerance or shrinkage allowance should be assumed for all products.
Before you approve
- The exact style and size labels are identified.
- Body and garment measurements are distinguished.
- Units and measurement points are defined.
- The assortment or size-by-size quantities are confirmed.
- The sample chart version and tolerances are recorded.
Use this checklist alongside the sampling guide and include your chart in the project brief.
Choosing Fabrics for Kids’ Sleepwear & Loungewear
“Soft cotton” is a starting point, but it is not a complete fabric specification. Describe the intended garment and season, then compare material samples against measurable requirements.
Begin with the garment and use
A lightweight summer set and a warmer lounge set have different requirements. Tell us whether you are developing a short-sleeve set, long-sleeve pajamas, an infant romper or another style. Include the target customer, destination and intended season. This gives the fabric discussion a practical starting point without assuming that one material suits every age or use.
Five details to put in the brief
Fabric information to request for the selected material
| Detail |
What to confirm |
| Composition |
Fiber names and percentages for the exact fabric. |
| Construction |
For example, jersey, interlock or rib; confirm with a sample. |
| Weight |
Grams per square metre (gsm), if supplied or measured. |
| Stretch |
Stretch direction, feel and recovery requirements. |
| Finish |
Surface feel, printing method and any agreed treatment. |
Composition, construction and weight describe different things. Two fabrics with the same fiber percentages can feel different because their knit, thickness and finish differ. Higher gsm means more mass per unit area; it does not by itself prove better quality or suitability.
Separate the layers
For a lined or padded garment, request separate information for the outer fabric, lining and filling. Do not apply an outer-fabric percentage to the whole product. If gsm or a layer composition is not available, leave it unconfirmed and ask for clarification. A photograph cannot reliably provide those values.
Compare a physical material sample
Review hand feel, opacity, stretch and drape alongside the intended fit. If shrinkage, colorfastness, pilling or print durability affects your buying decision, agree how it will be assessed and which result is acceptable before placing the order. Record the approved material reference so later changes can be identified.
Confirm requirements for the destination
Children’s sleepwear requirements depend on the destination and product design. Identify the applicable requirements with qualified market or testing advice, then ask what product-specific evidence and testing need to be arranged. A fiber name, supplier description or concept image does not establish certification or compliance.
A useful fabric request
Send the garment type, intended season, desired composition or material reference, approximate weight if known, stretch preference, artwork and wash expectations. Mark unknown details as “please advise.” We can discuss sourcing options against your brief and review them through paid sample development.
What to Include in Your Kidswear Quote Request
You do not need to have every detail decided before contacting us. A useful inquiry separates what you already know from what you would like help choosing.
Identify the product and buying route
For stock wholesale, include the product link or style code and preferred colors or prints. For custom production, send your design brief, technical pack or authorized reference images, with notes on the changes you want. If you are comparing both options, say so.
Our main focus is sleepwear and loungewear. You can also discuss infant rompers, baby sets, sweatshirts, T-shirts and trousers. Specify the age or height range you intend to serve, then confirm the measurements for the selected style.
Make the quantity breakdown readable
Use a separate line for each style and color, and identify pieces or sets. Stock wholesale starts at 100 pieces / sets per order and at least 5 per style and color, subject to available size assortments. Custom production starts at 100 pieces / sets per style and color, with mixed sizes available.
If you are unsure how to distribute the order, share your target total and ask us to review it. See the MOQ examples for the difference between an order minimum and a style-and-color minimum.

Distinguish dispatch from arrival
Tell us whether your date means goods ready for dispatch or goods received at your destination. Standard-order lead time is generally within 15 days, subject to order confirmation; sample preparation, larger-volume orders and international transit are discussed separately. Ask the quotation to identify the schedule and shipping scope that apply.
Confirm the basis of the quotation
Before approving an order, review the exact product specification, available stock or custom scope, quantity breakdown, sample terms, packaging, delivery arrangements and any required documentation. Ask what is included and what still needs a separate decision. Paid sample charges and any later credit toward a bulk order should be agreed explicitly.
Send your brief through Request a Quote or email chinabaizhuang@gmail.com. If you start with a short message, include a product reference, the buying route, an estimated quantity and your destination so we can discuss a useful next step.
Stock Wholesale vs. Custom Kidswear: Which Fits Your Order?
Start with one decision: do you want to buy an available style, or develop a product for your label? Both routes are available at Yunya Studio, but they require different quantities and preparation.

When stock wholesale is a useful starting point
Stock wholesale lets you combine styles and colors within the order minimum. For example, 40 sets of one available baby set, 30 sets of another and 30 infant rompers make a 100-unit order, provided every style-and-color selection meets its minimum and its size assortment is available. A two-piece set counts as one set.
The sample catalog helps you identify a product direction. A photograph or listing does not confirm live inventory: send the style reference and ask us to confirm the current colors, sizes and quantities before committing to an order.
When to discuss custom production
Custom production is appropriate when your fit, material, print or brand presentation needs to be developed. Send reference images or a technical pack and identify the details you want to retain or change. We can discuss pattern changes, fabric sourcing, printing, embroidery and branded trims against that brief.
Plan quantities for each style and color separately. One sleepwear style in two colors starts at 100 sets per color, or 200 sets in total. Sample preparation is paid; any credit toward a subsequent bulk order must be agreed separately.
Confirm timing for the route you choose
Our indicative lead time for standard orders is generally within 15 days, subject to order confirmation. Ask what starts that period and what it covers in your quotation. Sample preparation, larger orders and international shipping transit need separate schedules.
Send these four details first
- Your preferred route: stock wholesale, custom, or advice needed.
- The product reference and quantities by style and color.
- Your required size range and any branding changes.
- The destination country and target dates.
Explore our product categories, compare the MOQ examples, or review custom development options before sending your brief.
